The Yazidi orphans

Sindschar, a city in Northeast Iraq and mainly inhabited by Yazidis, was attacked by ISIS in August 2014. ISIS murdered many Yazidis were murdered and kidnapped the women and girls. Part of the Yazidis fled into the Kurdish autonomous region, others hide in the mountains of the Sindschar. Not long while ago, city was freed from ISIS rule.

Over 2800 children, who were able to get to safety, are still living in refugee camps in the Kurdish autonomous region. With the heavy toll on the international relief organizations and the Kurdish institutions to cope with the problem of hundreds of thousands of refugees in the region, the Yazidi orphan children are still living under difficult conditions.

A Yazidi NGO launched an aid project in March 2016, which is supported by individual donations from Iraq and the Christian-Yazidi Society (Germany). In the village of Seikhan, near Dohuk town, the first orphanage has been established, where 21 children are accommodated. A second house is under construction and will accommodate about 20 children.

The Albert Sevinc Foundation, in collaboration with the Central Council of the Yazidis in Germany and the Christian-Yazidi Society, will support this project by providing these children a child friendly environment to help the orphan children grow, develop, and have better life perspectives.

Apart from supporting the children, the foundation will also look for ways and means to help Yazidi women and girls who have been freed from ISIS. These women are in desperate need of help as most were traumatized by their terrible experiences.
