Mobile care teams for elders in Gozarto

The war and the breakdown of state structures have led the people of Gozarto to reorganize their lives on their own initiative. The basic medical care and the care of people in need are of particular importance. The collapse of the social and medical infrastructure caused by the war has hit those who are particularly dependent on help particularly hard, namely elderly people without relatives who could take care of them. The Foundation supports these people with a project that is carried out in collaboration with the Association of Women of Mesopotamia.

The foundation’s funds are used to purchase four vehicles, which can be used as mobile care facilities with appropriate equipment and material. Two vehicles are used in Qamishli, one in Derik and one in al-Hasaka. A team of two to four nurses are formed, who visit the old Aramaeans who are in need. This help includes work in the household, food preparation, the handling of purchases as well as a medical basic care. For the elderly, it is also important that they see that they are not left alone.

In this project the teams are made up of women whose men have fallen in the fighting or who are in a difficult situation for other reasons and are therefore dependent on a regular income. Their employment in this project also gives them the feeling that they are needed and contributes to the reconstruction of Aramaic life in Gozarto.
